• Q.What does it mean that the Limited Express surcharge is included, but the base fare ticket is not? How much extra is required?

  We arrange and include the Limited Express surcharge (reserved seat ticket). Guests must separately purchase the base fare ticket. The estimated base fare is approximately JPY 2,000 per person, one way.

• Q.How do I purchase the base fare ticket for the Kintetsu Limited Express "Blue Symphony", and how do I board?

  The steps are as follows.
  1) Purchase the base fare ticket at the ticket machine at Osaka-Abenobashi Station. Prepaid IC cards (e.g., Suica, PASMO, etc.)can also be used.
  2) Use the ticket at the ticket gate and pass through.
  3) Proceed to the Limited Express platform (Platform 6)
  4) Board the "Blue Symphony" departing at 14:10.
  5) Take your assigned seat. The seat number will be provided after your tour booking is confirmed.

  ●What are the Kumano Kodo and Yoshino?
  ◯Kumano Kodo
  ・The Kumano Kodo is a network of sacred pilgrimage routes that have been walked for over 1,000 years by people of all social classes and faiths.
  ・Surrounded by deep forests and layered mountain ranges, the Kumano region was once believed to be the entrance to Yomi-no-Kuni (the land of the afterlife). For this reason, pilgrimage to Kumano was traditionally considered a journey to a sacred boundary between this world and the next - a place where one could encounter the divine and experience spiritual and physical renewal while still alive. It is often called a "land of spiritual renewal".

  ・Yoshino is known as the birthplace of Shugendo, a uniquely Japanese mountain-based spiritual tradition that blends ancient mountain worship with Buddhism and other influences.
  ◯Shugendo 
  ・Shugendo is a path of spiritual training in which nature itself becomes the sacred training ground. Through prayer, mindful walking, and physically demanding practices such as climbing steep paths or standing beneath waterfalls, practitioners purify the five senses. The insights gained through direct physical experience are cultivated as practical wisdom that can transform everyday life.

Shugendo Experience

• Q.What is a Shugendo Experience?

  Shugendo is a traditional Japanese spiritual practice that uses the great outdoors as a sacred training ground. Through prayer, mindful walking, and sometimes rigorous ascetic practices such as climbing steep paths or standing beneath waterfalls, practitioners seek to purify the five senses and gain new insight.
  
  For this tour, guests may choose one of the following introductory experiences designed for the general public:
  ●Meditation
  A Buddhist meditation practice aimed at cultivating inner calm  and clear awareness.
  ●Waterfall Ascetic Practice (Takigyo)
  A purification ritual performed beneath a waterfall. It is intended to cleanse both body and mind, dispel everyday worries or misfortune, and open new perspectives in how you view life and challenges.
  ●Goma Fire Ritual 
  A sacred fire ceremony in which offerings are burned to symbolically release worldly attachments and negative thoughts. Prayers are offered for world peace and for "opening the path" by removing obstacles that may hinder progress in your life.

• Q.What should I wear for the waterfall ascetic practice (Takigyo)? Are changing rooms available? Can children participate?

  Special training garments are provided. Please bring a swimsuit, sandals, and a towel. You will change in a designated changing room (the training garment is worn over your swimsuit) before the experience. Children may also participate.

• Q.Is photography or video recording allowed? Can I post on social media?

  Photography and social media posting of the experience are permitted. However, certain sacred objects (such as Buddhist statues) and areas may prohibit photography. Please follow the instructions of on-site staff.

Pilgrimage & Trekking Experience

• Q.I'm not very confident in my physical fitness. Can I still join? Can children participate?

  The walking sections are beginner level (approx. 5 km total / 2-3 hours) and suitable for those without mountaineering experience or specialized gear. Children are welcome (recommended age : 10 and above). If you have heart conditions, knee or back issues, or concerns about stamina, please consult us in advance.

• Q.Can I rent the traditional outfit worn by the female model in the photos?

  Yes, rental is available with advance reservation. Please consult us beforehand. The rental fee is JPY 7,000 per person and is not included in the tour price. A separate payment link will be provided by the operating company.

  No. At both ryokan, guests with tattoos are not permitted to use the communal public baths (large baths). If you have tattoos, please plan to use the bath in your guest room instead.
