Tony’s Review:
I personally oversaw the entire experience to make sure it’s not a typical tourist product, but something real. Every detail has been carefully selected, from the traditional ryokan inns and food menus to the people involved, who are genuinely kind, trustworthy, and deeply connected to the region.
Each component, from the Blue Symphony train to the mountain treks, has been chosen to maximize uniqueness and depth, even for locals.
The 3-day structure is intentional. Day 1 is semi-guided, easing you into the experience with local exploration and the beginning of Shugendo context. Day 2 is fully guided and highly immersive, starting early and covering Kumano Hongu Taisha, Nachi Falls, and mountain routes through Yoshino-Kumano National Park. It is a full and deeply engaging day. Day 3 is designed for recovery and self-exploration, giving you time to slow down, enjoy the traditional inn district, and reflect.
Some experiences, such as waterfall training and goma rituals, are difficult to access even for locals. At the same time, there is a clear balance between guided immersion and personal time, so it never feels rushed.
All accommodations and meals are local, reflecting the true food culture of the area. This is very different from what you find in major cities.
At this price point, the level of access and quality offered here is extremely rare, and not easily replicated elsewhere.
That said, this is not for everyone. If you are looking for something light, it may feel like a lot. But if you want something deeper and more real, this is it.
